Monday abandonment is usually a roster problem

Empty conference chairs waiting for a morning session

Most floors in this city already know Mondays are heavy. The useful question is which half hour. Daily abandonment is a smear. Interval counts against the published roster usually show the leak sitting between 9:00 and 9:30, when the school run still has two seats in the corridor.

Borrowed seats make this worse. A person who “comes in if it looks bad” does not appear on the sheet the planner prints on Friday. The arrival curve does not care. If you average those Mondays with a week that contains a public holiday, you will get a number that never happens on the floor.

Before anyone rewrites the greeting, hang the overlay. Time the greeting with a stopwatch if you must. Twenty seconds will not open a seat that is empty. We have sat in rooms where the script had been rewritten three times and the 9:15 gap had never been drawn.

Mark Orthodox Christmas week and the first working day of January separately. Folding them into Monday will make every later Monday look calm, which the floor will not believe.
